Why Having a Great Logo is Important

This week we are going to be talking a bit on why having a great logo that accurately represents your brand is important. A logo is the first thing to represent your brand that a potential client sees. It represents your brand or company and also what you business stands for. Which is why a logo needs to be an accurate portrayal of your business.

If your business was founded to raise funds for protecting wildlife and natural habitats it would make more sense for your logo to include trees and/ or animals in the design rather than just being plain old text. By including the trees or animals you are putting emphasis on the fact your business is made to raise money to protect wildlife by using symbolism.

Take Tentree's primary logo for example.

This is their main logo and you can tell right away that it is the number "10" and there is a tree inside of the number. The logo is very easy to understand and is memorable.

The reasoning behind the name "ten tree" is because the company was founded on the idea that for every shirt or sweatshirt sold they will plant ten trees in response. All of their clothing is also ethically made in different places around the world and made with sustainable materials. Their logo reflects their company beliefs along with being easy to recognize and remember.

Tentree also has another logo that is not as well recognized and does not represent their brand as well as the one mentioned above.

By comparing their primary logo side-by-side to the simple all text logo you can see that the symbolic logo is much more effective at representing their brand and purpose compared to the logo that is just very simple text.

Another great example of a logo that accurately depicts the business it represents would be FedEx's logo.

If you hadn't ever noticed before, there is a hidden arrow in between the letters "e" and "x" in the logo.

"FedEx" Is short for "Federal Express", and the arrow represents the companies ideals about quick delivery from one location to the next. Their logo has a sneakier way of expressing the companies ideals compared to Tentree. But nonetheless the logo does get the point across, is easy to remember, and is clear to read.

If your logo is too "busy" (has too many components or a lot going on) then it can be difficult to read, understand, and will be hard to put on any products or images unless it is larger. A simple logo will stick in peoples minds easier and will be much less of a hassle to use as a watermark or on anything requiring it to be smaller than normal such as a business card or letterhead.

Here is an example of a logo that looks really cool, but would be very difficult to use when smaller and is difficult to read at first.

A lot of work went into making this logo but it is too hard to read and would be nearly impossible to make out from a distance or in small print.

These are just a few things to consider when deciding on your business's logo.

I hope you have enjoyed this weeks post and I hope to see you back here next week!
